about

Following on from their critically acclaimed debut LP ‘Dream Harder’ and Lockdown Mixtape ‘Golden Dirt’ which gained the support of BBC Radio 1, Radio X, BBC 6 Music, Apple Music, Louder Than War, God is in the TV and more, Hello Cosmos announce a new album of collaborative remixes spanning their catalogue to date.

‘Hard Dirt’ continues to reflect the bands wide reaching approach to collaboration, which has seen them record with over 50 artists worldwide to date including Yard Act word-ace James Smith, Rey Sapiens & The Pleasure Temple Ritual Band in underground studios across continents from Los Angeles to Uganda.

Featuring 12 remixers from across the globe bringing their own unique take to the creative melting pot that is Hello Cosmos, ‘Hard Dirt’ offers up a varied electronic twist to the bands defiant genre hopping catalogue.

From 4/4 melodic techno on Madame Electrifie’s ‘Loud Is Beautiful Remix’ to all out indie disco reminiscent of early LCD Soundsystem on Joe Thompson’s ‘Raise The Dawn Remix’, ‘Hard Dirt’ serves up a spectrum of unpredictable electronic delights.

Hello Cosmos head-honcho Ben Robinson describes the record as the third act in the story of Hello Cosmos….

“My aim with Hello Cosmos was to create a world that could have an ever expanding gang of creative collaborators. The remixes and re-edits have always been an important part of the project. Being able to hear new takes on the tracks from old friends, label buddies, electronic pioneers & new artists has been epic. We’ve called it ‘Hard Dirt’ as the tracks are reworked from our debut album ‘Dream Harder’ & mixtape ‘Golden Dirt’
It really is the third act in the story of Hello Cosmos and is an album in its own right. Best served beautifully LOUD.” - Ben Robinson

The first single from the album due for release February 3rd comes courtesy of new Cosmic Glue signee ‘FOXTRAP’ who gained support from BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music following their debut self titled album in 2019. With echoes of Burial, Four Tet and Jon Hopkins, their ‘Summer Will Come Remix’ is a dose of eerie yet emotive minimalist electronica, complimented by a haunting yet beautifully melodic vocal.

The second single from the forthcoming LP comes from Data Transmission radio host and BBC Introducing contributor Madame Electrifie due for release February 17th, her remix of the bands 2021 single ‘Loud Is Beautiful’ is a deep, diving 4/4 cut that brings Cosmos vocalist Ben Robinson’s lyrical quips direct to the dancefloor.

"When Hello Cosmos approached me for a remix, Loud is Beautiful jumped out at me straight away. I could instantly hear how the raw vocal and driving guitar could be warped into a classic-rave-esq monster. This is pretty far removed from my other production work, but it just took on a life all of its own as soon as I got into the studio. I'm really chuffed to work with such a great band and amazing raw materials." - Madame Electrifie

The final single ahead of the album’s release is served up by free spirited, African diva Catu Diosis bringing her own afrocentric blend of electonia to the 2021 Cosmos outing ‘Metaverse’ due for release on February 24th.

“I took inspiration from afro sounds like Kuduro and drill basslines to create an atmosphere that resonated pretty (in my opinion) with the theme of the song. The non-conforming hard hitting Kuduro inspired percussions together with the vocal chops at the end of the remix was one of my favorite parts to work on.” - Catu Diosis

Further remixes featured on the LP come courtesy of Richard Norris adding Hello Cosmos to his impressive catalogue of remixes including (Brian Eno, Tame Impala, Pet Shop Boys, Happy Mondays) and many more. Jagz Kooner who is credited with creating some of the most genre defining songs of the last 30 years, working with Andrew Weatherall remixing and producing for the likes of Future Sound Of London, Bjork, New Order and The Chemical Brothers) before forming the seminal band Sabres Of Paradise, plus long standing writer and producer Joe Thompson, who’s tracks have been spun by iconic DJ’s Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold and Paul Van Dyk.

‘Golden Dirt’ Mixtape collaborator and San Francisco based producer Olchemist serves up re-works under monikers Olchemist and Hereldeduke, in addition to Leeds based vocalist, producer and sax sensation Elara who also featured on the ‘Golden Dirt’ Mixtape. With additional cuts coming from Manchester based one-woman electronic avalanche Caro C, genre hopping electronia trio Narcissus and Leeds based psychedelic electronic production outfit Lost Colours, ‘Hard Dirt’ is a voyage of electronic re-imagination.
